Douglas_Usher.jpgDouglas Usher
B.A., LL.B.
Barrister & Solicitor

Douglas graduated from York University with a degree in philosophy and subsequently attended Osgoode Hall Law School from which he obtained his law degree in 1988. He articled at Pinkofskys (then Pinkofsky Lockyer Kwinter) in 1989 and since then has practiced criminal law exclusively. Douglas has appeared as counsel in over a thousand trials and successfully defended persons accused of charges ranging from theft to murder. His particular interest is in the Charter of Rights and the defence of the rights of individuals.

An example of Douglas' advocacy skill can be found in R. v. Eagle, where Douglas uncovered police misconduct which the court characterized as "a case of intentional and deliberate disregard for the principles of law that are of fundamental importance in a free and democratic society." As a result, evidence of narcotics and a firearm was excluded from evidence resulting in an acquittal for the accused.
